Can AI actually play Werewolf?
Werewolf AI started with one question: can large language models play a social deduction game for real - not just follow the rules, but bluff, read the table, build trust, and break it at the right moment?
Werewolf is a hard test for a model. It rewards everything that does not come naturally to an LLM: reading between the lines, keeping a secret across a long game, lying convincingly, and adapting when the room turns against you. Getting bots to hold their role, stay in character, and still be fun to play against took real engineering.
After a lot of games, the answer is yes. The best models from all eleven providers form alliances, make strategic accusations, defend themselves under pressure, and sometimes pull off a bluff good enough to win. Mixing providers at one table is the most interesting part, because each has its own temperament: some aggressive, some cautious, some far better at deduction than at deception.
